By: Castillo Robert

Hawaii is the largest of the islands comprising the American state of the same name. Located in the Pacific Ocean and with a cingular triangular shape, its origin is volcanic and has great and towering mountains that are installed in some of the most powerful telescopes in the world. Its main attraction for tourists are the beaches, volcanoes and waves undoubtedly, one of the favorite places for surfers. On the beach of Waikiki, Honolulu, can be traced waves reaching 9 meters.

Hawaii-Hawaii is the most farthest, south and east of the Hawaiian Islands, consisting of Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau and Kahoolawe, and separated from the islands of Maui and Kahoolawe Alenuihaha channel. Its main scenic attraction is the amount and height of its volcanoes and the greenery that fills the island under palm trees and signs of whole fields of pineapple, Ananas called by the Hawaiians. The volcanoes have been linked by strands of lava.

The highest volcano is Mauna Kea, currently inactive, with an altitude of 4,205 m. This summit is an ideal place for astronomical observation, so in their observatories are some of the best and most powerful telescopes in the world, including the Keck telescope, ten meters in diameter. South of the volcano, on the same island, this manun Loa mountain, considered the highest mountain in the world, if we consider that rises in the sea bottom.

The island has beautiful scenery, an equable climate, good transportation, and numerous resorts. The industry of this island is mainly based on three products, pineapple, coffee and sugarcane.

The capital of the island Hawaii is next to the other islands in this area the state of Hawaii, who joined the United States on 21 August 1959 as number 50. Despite having its own roots and framed in Polynesia, most Hawaiian population is highly mixed among Hawaiian, Chinese, Filipinos and Japanese. The original Polynesian culture can be seen in several museums on the islands, where there are good examples of art from the Pacific Islands and the Far East. Honolulu besides being the capital of Hawaii, is an important center for the economy and focus of naval activity at the famous Pearl Harbor facilities.

Another of the attractions in Honolulu's Iolani Palace, official residence of the monarchy until its abolition in 1893 and built between 1879 and 1882. Also formerly worked as the state capitol. At Pearl Harbor you can also visit the USS Arizona Memorial, built in memory of the victims of the 1941 Japanese attack. But undoubtedly the favorite tourist attraction for every tourist is the beach of Waikiki, with excellent conditions for surfing and any water sport.

To make this visit to the capital is advisable to be dressed in comfortable clothes and summer because the climate is moderate tropical island with

Mountains of Hawaii

Hawaiian orographic characteristics make its spectacular palpable both at sea and on land. On land, tourists will marvel at the number of volcanoes,
mountains and dark tones that make Hawaii a true Polynesian paradise postcard. Some volcanoes are inactive today, but others such as the Kilauea eruption cycle began in 1983 and is the longest in modern Hawaiian history.

If this activity is to your liking it is more appropriate to address the Volcanoes National Park which lies in the southern part of the island. Created in 1916, covers an area of 927'4 Km2. In the park there are two active volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Killauea. The first, the largest in the world, reaches 4,169 meters above sea level. The crater walls rise up to 180 m eruptions take place in the main entrance and other lateral cracks, resulting in the formation of new craters on the volcano's slopes. The Kilauena is located on the eastern slope of Mauna Loa and latitude is 1111 m. The eastern rift has been active for over ten years. Its crater, the largest active volcanoes in the world, has an area of 100 km2 and its huge inner moat is often called "the mansion of eternal fire."

In the park you can see a varied landscape, from the Kau Desert, located on the lee slope of Kilauea, a thick forest of ferns on the western slope. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, established in 1911, is located next to the crater of Kilauea.

Bravery at sea
But if nature is rebellious at land in Hawaii, furious and extraordinary, and water behavior is the exception. Waikiki Beach, one of the most internationally known and attracts more tourists every year to the island, offers a superb place for surfing. The winds, excessive violence and make the waves come to reach nine meters high and the surfers who go on this adventure are true professionals in tame the waves. But it is on the northern coast of the island of Oahu, also in Hawaii, where it reached dizzy heights. These beaches, near Vence Beach (San Diego), Australia (from Sydney to Brisbane) are international surfing circuit.

The conflict around the interests of surfing, it is sometimes important as there are few areas where this sport and, moreover, are full of people so often conflicts arise between fishermen, swimmers and athletes. Both Hawaii and the surrounding islands, experts say, are very favorable terms due to strong winds and coral reefs that protect the island, so that when hitting the water with them cause those waves suitable for surfing, which occur at very few beaches in the world, so Hawaii is a center of attraction for the lovers of this sport. And that is why Hawaii the surf and its volcanic nature has become its reason of life.

The success of a trip to Hawaii is guaranteed by the waves, mountains and people getting you as soon as you are off the plane with a friendly "aloha" and a magnificent string of flowers typical of their vestiment and folkclore island nature.
