In the beginning golf is as a rule easier and we have a tendency to learn quicker making large strides forward with our game. This is why it is important to start correctly as any bad habits you may have were probably entrenched when taking up golf. Fortunately we can right these mistakes by getting professional coaching with plenty of practice and hard work. Improved golf is just around the corner as there is loads of information to be found online to get your golf questions answered. Below you can find a few snippets of advice I am positive will help you along the way to improved golf. 1. It is imperative your alignment is right. Not being able to hit the ball to your target is going to be a huge setback if you want to improve. Aim the clubface to your target first and after that align yourself keeping the knees, hips and shoulders all parallel to the target. A good thought is to imagine yourself standing on a railway line with the opposite side of the track aiming to the target. 2. A sound approach is to pick a target that keeps you away from danger off the tee. Make sure you tee your ball up on the same side of the teeing area that the trouble is, as this way makes it easier for you to aim away from the trouble. By doing this you will not have to take as many penalty drops or have to reload from the tee for being out of bounds, which will help keep your score as low as possible. 3. Maintain a steady head position throughout the golf swing. This will lead to more stability producing better golf shots with a crisper strike. Bear in mind I said keep your head still and not DOWN. Keeping your head down has ruined many a good swing. Lift up your chin and you will produce a better shoulder turn which will allow you to keep your head still. 4. The skill of reading greens correctly should not be overlooked. You should spend a great deal of time trying to master this aspect of golf as nearly half your game is spent on, or around the green. As well as the normal contours of a golf green you will also find that a golf ball will normally roll away from a hill and towards a water source. Make a point to remember this when approaching a green. As soon as you have read the green and decided the path your ball will take, do not change your mind. Be self-assured and commit yourself to the line you have chosen. 5. There are many external factors to think about in putting and one of those is the grain of the grass on the greens. Shiny grass tells you that the grain is running away from you, and dull grass highlights the grain running towards you. If your putt is with the grain then the ball will roll further as it will be a faster putt. Those against the grain go slower and therefore less far. 6. In recent years there has been a switch to soft-spikes in golf shoes, and while this has helped with wear and tear on the greens they do tend to get clogged with grass so make sure you use a tee or pitchmark repairer to clean them as you go. This is one small area of your game of golf that the majority of people forget, but it is very important to keep your balance and not lose your footing during the golf swing, and even when walking on the golf course. 7. One thing I know a lot of golfers neglect is their golf grips. Make sure to clean them in hot soapy water with a scrubbing brush then towel dry. Do this once a week and you will be astonished how the grips feel and how much easier it will be to control the golf club as slippy, worn out grips are a nightmare. Your only relationship to the golf club is through your hands so it is vital your golf grips are in good condition. It ought to go without saying that if this does not help rejuvenate the grips then you must replace them as soon as possible. I am positive that anyone adopting these tips will help their golf game. I look forward to speaking again soon. Have a great time on the Links.
